Instant Pot Brown Rice- Learn how to make perfect Brown rice in the instant pot.Fool Proof Method of cooking fluffy brown rice Easily!

Who likes underdone chewy brown rice? It's just about my most abhorred thing in the world.

It takes way too much time to cook and it always results in either a weird gummy texture or a little undercooked.

But since I have bought my instant pot, brown rice has become a everyday staple now.

When you cook the brown rice in instant pot, you get better than perfect rice- every single time- Fluffy, non sticky and i swear with a nice curry on top, you wont even know the difference between white rice and brown rice!

Also, if here is how to cook basmati rice in instant pot.

Why Cook Brown Rice in Instant Pot

Brown rice is one of the easiest and most often made dish in my instant pot.

Here is why I make my brown rice in instant pot only.

  • No Baby Sitting Required
  • Keep Warm Setting keeps the rice warm till i am ready to actually eat.
  • Delay Setting i can delay the cooking of the brown rice by a couple of hours and get super fresh, hot food when i need it.

Brown Rice and Water Ratio

Unlike with white rice, brown rice needs a little more water.

My ratio is 1:1.25 which means - 1 cup of brown rice needs 1+¼ Cup water.

If you want your rice even more soft, use the ratio - 1:1.5.

If you are delaying the cooking of brown rice, Change the ratio to 1:1.This is because delaying will essentially soak the rice.

Brown Rice Instant Pot Cooking Time

Brown rice takes 22-24 minutes of cooking time.I usually cook it for 22 minutes and let the pressure release naturally.

Factors that affect Cooking Time

There is a chance your rice cooks differently than mine.It could be because of any of the following reasons

  • Type of Rice
  • Altitude
  • Size of instant pot
  • Soaking Time

How to Make Brown Rice in Instant Pot

Step 1: Prep

Wash the brown rice in running water.

Step 2: Pressure Cook

Add the rice and water to the inner pot.If using salt and oil, add that too.

Close the lid and select PRESSURE COOK on HIGH for 22 minutes with the pressure valve in SEALED position.

Step 3: Pressure Release and Fluffing up

Let the pressure release naturally.

If you don't have the time for this, increase the pressure cooking time to 25 minutes and Quick Release after 1 minutes or do a slow intermittent release.

Open the pot, fluff the rice and serve hot or store for later.

  • 1.25 Cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Olive oil Optional
  • Salt Optional

  • Add it to the inner pot.
  • Add 1.25 cups of water ,Salt,Olive oil( if using)
  • Close the lid, select PRESSURE COOK on HIGH for 22 minutes with the pressure valve in SEALED position.
  • At the end of 22 minutes, Let the Pressure release naturally.
  • Open the pot and fluff it up.Serve hot or store for later.

Notes

Olive Oil & Salt - This is optional.Adding salt and olive oil will give a better texture and taste.
Rice : Water Ratio - Ideally for fluffy non sticky brown rice i use 1:1.25 as the ratio. If you like your rice softer, use 1:1.5 ratio.
If you are soaking or delaying the cooking for more than 15 minutes, reduce the Rice water ratio is 1:1
Pressure Release- it is advisable to release the pressure naturally. Especially because rice can get stuck in the pressure valve when opened right after the cook time is over.
If you are in a hurry, increase the cook time to 25 minutes, wait for 1 minute and release the pressure after that slowly and intermittently.
