Garlicky Savory French Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ Cup Milk
  • 2 slices Bread
  • 1 pinch Salt adjust as per taste
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder or roasted garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Dried herbs Or chopped fresh herbs like thyme or oregano
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese optional

Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon Salted Butter or herb garlic butter
  • 1 teaspoon Hot honey Optional
  • 1 teaspoon Chives or cilantro stems chopped

Instructions

  • Make the custard mixture by whisking egg, milk, salt, herbs, paprika, and garlic powder in a shallow tray or dish.
  • Place the bread slices in the custard. Soak for 10 seconds minutes on each side. Increase the soaking time to 5 minute on each side if you are using sour dough bread.
  • Heat the nonstick or well-seasoned cast iron pan. Add butter. Swirl it around to coat the pan.
  • Place the soaked bread in the hot pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes each side till it turns golden brown.
  • Serve with a knob of butter.

Notes

The first four ingredients make the basic French toast. 
This recipe is of garlicky French toast. You can switch the rest of the ingredients to make it yours.
Masala French Toast - salt, chili powder, finely chopped onions, coriander.
Italian Seasoning -  Use store-bought Italian seasoning of herbs and spices.
